Size:

Client: The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research
TIRR’s Kirby Glen Clinic is composed of three star programs of this internationally known rehabilitation hospital. The TOTS (TIRR Outpatient Therapy Services), TIRR Challenge Program, and the BIRC (Brain Injury Research Center) were consolidated to form this “super clinic”. This new site will better serve the hospital’s outpatients, as well as referrals that come from all points of our nation and many foreign countries. The combined programs will accommodate over 14,000 adult and pediatric patient visits annually. To adapt and reuse what was once supermarket space, the A/E designed a high efficiency HVAC system, cut windows into the exterior concrete panel walls and added an entry arcade to help create a more professional entry image. The interiors have used saturated color schemes to define different activities assisting the patient in way finding. The 20 feet high, exposed-to-roof-deck space, provides an open feeling, and encourages a gym-like workout as experienced in fitness or wellness centers, not a clinic or hospital. |
